Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines the football scholarship of his family and service to the community. In the first place Selmon was brought up with Lucious and Jessie Selmon. They lived on the farm close to Eufala within Oklahoma as the eldest of their nine children. He played football with his three brothers for Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-America. The year was 1973. Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy received the Outland & Lombardi Awards for being the most effective lineman in the USA. During his three-year tenure as Oklahoma's starting quarterback, the Sooners went 32-1-1 and captured two national titles. In 1975, Selmon was awarded his third scholarship and was recognized as the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon earned a degree in education. Lee Roy was involved in volunteer work ten hour per week while he attended college. Following college, he moved to Tampa playing nine years for the Buccaneers were an all-pro three times before beginning a business career. In 1988, as an account liaison officer for First Florida Bank of Tampa He was a member of the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as one of the Ten of America's top young men. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and stood at a height of 6'2 inches. When he was playing college, he was the captain of the team of 1975. Lee Roy joined the University of South Florida in 1993 as an assistant director of sports. The College Football Hall of Fame recognized the player on the 28th of October, 1988. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame In 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame, in 1995. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded an award of the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
